Abstract

The Russia–Ukraine war, which began in 2022, has become a defining geopolitical event that has accelerated the transformation of the post-Cold War international order while reshaping the geopolitical and geoeconomic landscape of Eurasia. This article examines the causes, dynamics, and implications of the conflict through the theoretical perspectives of Kenneth Waltz’s structural neorealism, security dilemma theory, John J. Mearsheimer’s offensive realism, and Halford J. Mackinder’s Heartland Theory. The study employs qualitative comparative analysis, case study, and document analysis, drawing upon statistical data and policy reports published by the OECD, the World Bank, the European Commission, and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) for the period 2022–2025. The findings indicate that the Russia–Ukraine war represents not only a military confrontation but also a profound geoeconomic transformation affecting Eurasian trade, energy networks, logistics systems, supply chains, and strategic transportation corridors. The decline of the Northern Corridor and the growing strategic significance of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) illustrate the reconfiguration of Eurasian connectivity. The study argues that the conflict reflects the ongoing transition toward a multipolar international order in which global influence is increasingly determined not only by military power but also by infrastructure connectivity, economic networks, supply chain resilience, and geoeconomic competitiveness.
