Skeletal elements of dinosaurs undergo various developmental modes due to their biomechanical functions. This study compares the microstructures of different skeletal elements from Psittacosaurus mongoliensis, including the scapula, rib, tibia, and metatarsal. The microstructures of these elements differ, likely reflecting their distinct functions. It was found that the metatarsal and tibia have densely grown bone walls, which may be related to the pressure exerted by body weight. Conversely, the scapula primarily consists of spongy bone tissue. The ribs exhibit histological features similar to those of both long bones and flat bones, such as the scapula, possibly reflecting their role in protecting internal organs.
